LJ Fantasy Hockey
Want to join a fantasy hockey league where you can draft third-liners and not be crazy? I have a fantasy hockey league that has five teams now. BUT, we need some more! You know you want to join. We're going to have three forward lines, three defensive pairings, and 2 goalies, so our league should get pretty deep; you'll have good reason to draft your favorite second- and third-liners.
Joining and playing is simple. To join, just go to:http://hockey.fantasysports.yahoo.com/hockey
. And click to sign up.
The league ID is: 53144
And the password is: 123456789abcdefg
Sign up ASAP and lock in your spot in the draft order!

So I've been listening to lots of criticism about the shootout (which I happen to like because it gives the fans a resolution to the game).
I understand that a great deal of the criticism is about the points awarded. So I have an idea...tell me what you think:
Every game is worth 5 points.
If you win in regulation you get all 5, loser gets 0
If you win in OT you get 4, loser gets 1
If you win in Shootout you get 3, loser gets 2
Under this system, every game is worth the exact same amount of points (5) and points are awarded progressively based on performance. The premium thus is on winning in regulation, or short of that, winning in overtime.

So since I am up this early and have no life, i did my pre draft ranking, because i set my draft (idiot I am) during the Pats game Sunday...moron=me...I wanted to go out and watch the game, but alas I will miss first quarter I am sure which I suppose doesnt really matter they are going to destroy anyway :)
So in turn i picked up(lets hope and pray haha) some extras i hadn't thought about last night and the majority of the extras come from the Devils, and who can argue that you can go wrong with that team...heh shame on me they are my nemesis ;) but seriously they always manage to put together a pretty swell team which is an understatement.

2. Dany Heatley
3. Roberto Luongo
4. Joe Thornton
5. Alexander Ovechkin
6. Martin Brodeur
7. Jaromir Jagr

HI..I'm new to this community.
I dont know many people into hockey, so I decided to try and find some people
So i started my Hockey fantasy team today, joined a random league thing on Yahoo, which i used last year and I did well with it. It really isnt anything special no money involved or anything
If anyone wants to join me and make another one, thats cool. or if you know people that need more people thats cool too. the more the merrier :)
so here is my list of who i want to try for so far, def subj. to change in the next 3 daysCenter
Martin St. Louis
I put up a group for us on Facebook too...I only have a few of you on my Facebook so if you're in the league this year and on Facebook, do a search for 'puckoff' or drop me a note and I'll point you in the right direction.

Okay, so now that our annual hockey league has been changed to a keeper league format, it presents an interesting option that I think works well in another league I am in. As the draft will have to be held off of Yahoo next year again on LiveJournal, a bulletin board or something similar, we now have the option of making it so that draft picks can be traded. For those that don't know how this would work, here's an example...
I could trade Miikka Kiprusoff and my 6th round pick in the 2008 draft, for Josh's Nikolai Khabibulin and his 1st pick in the 2008 draft. (Thus, giving him the better goaltender, but giving me two first round picks the following season).
I think it would be best if draft picks were always traded in equal quantity since we have maximum roster sizes and you don't want anyone to end up drafting more people than they can even carry on a roster. Having this option available would allow contenders to make a push for the playoffs, while giving the underdog teams a chance to fight back with better draft picks in the following season. What do you guys think?

Proof that during the draft I was putting the squeeze on chudweiser
It's somewhat blurry...but then again...so's the real Chud.

I hope Shanny...
is doing okay!! I haven't tried to find a review of the game because I am too nervous to look at the video. Poor guy...

I should have traded Nabakov when I had the chance. Is he done for the season? He has been playing horribly.
Who should I put in tonight? My choices: Lundqvist, Backstrom, Giguere. I was going to go with Henrik ( hopefully pumped up with Avery ) and Giguere (hoping the Ducks get back into things).

murder report - post all-star break edt.
i just wanted to say a belated congratulations to Brainiax IHC who handed me my worst loss of the season.
i still don't know how that happened, but it did make me happy to see someone in the bottom bracket defeat someone in the top. with that said, i also look to Ron's Ice Dogs. i see what adversity the last three weeks have brought you in our fantasy league. all i can say is keep fighting the good fight, anything is possible. there is still lots of hockey left to play in the fantasy season.
remember everyone. if you're looking at your team, not happy with the performance, looking to individual players that just don't produce.. then trade an apple for an apple! hit that free agency market and pick up a different player. worst case scenerio, they put up the same about of points as the player you just dropped. best case, you just made yours a better team.
here is a tip from me, not necessarily one others may agree with, but here's how i do my thing on the free agency market. at first glance this late in the season you may think all the best players have been picked over, and they have! but there are still a few gems out there burried you can find with little effort.
find the hot hands or players who've not played the entire season, but what they are playing is gold. here's how to dig for that:
-on our FANTASY LEAGUE '06 homepage, click along the top on the PLAYERS tab to find our version of the free agent market.
-once there, you should see two different lines of search fields above one another. one where you can find a player by their last name. i want you to check the second line with all the drop-down menus.
-DON'T change any of the drop-down menus except the third one on the far right next to the "filter" button. now here i'll leave it to your preference, but if you're looking for a hot hand that's current, use the drop down menu on the very right and choose "Last Week (total)". after you have that selected, hit "filter", to the right of that menu.
-a new list of players will be organized. from this point just bring your mouse curson down a little to where you see the "Ranking" column which is divided into two smaller collumns. the default is set on o-rank, click the next one to just "Rank" and you should see that mini-column now become highlighted.
what you're looking at now is a list from best to worst of all the free agents of who did what in the last week. right now at number one i'm looking at the player "Denis Arkhipov" who had a goal and a power play point last week. this week looks a little dry, but keep checking 'cause there'll be weeks where you'll find a player is top of that list consecutively putting up decent points. do a little research of that player on www.rotoworld.com ,type his name into the search engine that sports website provides and see if there's any info on him. look, there is! buddy just got called up from the ahl, has only played a couple games but he was put onto sidney crosby's top penguins line and that's why he's getting all those points, better go grab him before anyone else does! that was just an example.
i know that was a lot of reading for anyone that took the time, i hope i explained myself well enough, but if you use that system, change it however you think it might help you better find what you're looking for, but i guarantee, this is a good way to locate hidden gems in the free agent market. my advice, DON'T put up with nobody players on your team who don't put up any points for a long time. mix it up and get in the mix!

Fantasy Sports - A Year in Review
So how did everyone make out in 2006 fantasy wise?
Thanks to the wonder that is the Yahoo! Profile, I was able to see that I ended up with 5 trophies.
4 Gold (2 football pools, 1 baseball, and 1 football pick 'em)
1 Silver (baseball)
With 2006 Basketball and Hockey and Soccer still to be determined, there are chances for those numbers to improve.
Most importantly this showed improvement over my 2005 fantasy season in which I only recorded 4 trophies.
2 Gold (Baseball, Hockey)
1 Silver (Football)
1 Bronze (Hockey)
I'm looking forward to taking you all on in 2007 and see if I can't make it 6 trophies by the end of the year.

Livejournal NBA Update
It's been a while since I discussed the comings and goings of one of our leagues:
The Livejournal NBA league.
Currently, the eight manager league has some interesting battles going on, as evinced by the Standings.
Rank Team W-L-T Pct GB Last Week Waiver Moves
1. Get F*cking Bent 43-20-0 .683 - 7-2-0 4 3
2. Raptor Cubs 36-27-0 .571 7 7-2-0 1 10
3. Uberpwnage NTC 35-26-2 .571 7 2-7-0 5 10
4. NT Mooks 34-28-1 .548 8.5 7-2-0 2 5
5. set the pace 27-35-1 .437 15.5 2-7-0 8 3
6. Saint Brainac 26-37-0 .413 17 2-7-0 3 -
7. Ron's Sixers 25-37-1 .405 17.5 6-3-0 6 -
8. Midwest Steamers 23-39-1 .373 19.5 3-6-0 7 2
Essentially, the league has been broken up into three groups.
Group 1: Get F*cking Bent is alone at the top and looking down on...
Group 2: The pretenders to the crown: Raptor Cubs, Uberpwnage in da NTC, and NT Mooks who are all within 1.5 games of each other. Two bigs weeks for one of these teams could catapault them into first. That said, two bad weeks could drop them right out of contention. (Just ask rubedawg
the manager of Uberpwnage... he was in first for a loooong time)
Group 3: The rest. Set the Pace, Saint Braniac, Ron's Sixers and Midwest Steamers are all within four games of each other, vying for the fifth and sixth seeds.
It's early in the season yet, but I think this is going to be a nice, tight race right until the end.
My Birthday is only 10 days away, what the fuck should I do for it this year?

Trash Talk v2.0
I just wanted to say that halfway through the season, i'm the only team that is yet to suffer a weekly loss. Come beat me, if you can.
|Friday, December 15th, 2006|
I'm pretty beefy in Goal while my RW is pretty weak as I do not have a consistent scorer. I was offered Cheechoo for Nabokov but it doesn't seem entirely fair as Cheechoo has been inconsistent this year. I don't mind trading Nabokov as I have Giguere and Lundqvist left. I was going to try and go for Iginla. Any thoughts?

Bringing Hate For Yahoo Stats
Why is Yahoo so damned slow sometimes in posting previous night's stats?!?
I just wanted to see what my game looked like after Crosby scored a goal and had 5 (that's F-I-V-E) assists last night...but no luck, they still haven't updated anything.
Let's just all get together and kill Yahoo shall we?

Strange night in fantasy hockey
I almost never get lucky but thus far tonight for 2 players I ended up with 7G, 1 PPP, 1 SG.
Of course I also had Lundqvist in as well.
(Not in your league, but another fantasy hockey aficionado)
